INDIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES (IAS)

  • This kind of examinations is generally known as civil service examinations.
  • This examination is conducted by Union Service Public Commission (UPSC)
  • Get through a civil service is not an easy task; if you make it then you can be proud of yourself for getting through IAS exam as it is respected to be an honour to be an IAS.
  • The candidates must be an Indian / subject of Nepal / Bhutan.
  • The candidates must be a graduate.
  • The candidate’s age must be more than 21 years & less than 30 years of age.
  • The selection procedure consists of 3 stages given below:

Stage 1: Preliminary exam

PAPER TOPICS MARKS DURATION / PAPER
1 General Studies 150 180 Minutes
2 Optional subjects 300 180 Minutes

 

  • The candidates can select the optional subjects as per their convenience from the list stated in the application form.
  • The candidates must pass preliminary exam in order to attend main exam.

 

Stage 2: Main exam

1 Language ( candidate opted) 300 180 Minutes
2 English 300 180 Minutes
3 Essay writing 200 180 Minutes
4 General studies 300 180 Minutes
5 General studies 300 180 Minutes
6 Optional subjects (candidate opted) 300 180 Minutes
7 Optional subjects (candidate opted) 300 180 Minutes
8 Optional subjects (candidate opted) 300 180 Minutes
9 Optional subjects (candidate opted) 300 180 Minutes

 

  • If the candidate has pass through this they are qualified for interview round.

Stage: 3 Interviews

  • The candidates will be interviewed by a panel of members to test their ability for 300 marks.
  • Based on mark obtained candidates in both main & interview the merit list will be published.
  • Presently, UPSC is planning to introduce CSAT( civil Service Aptitude test ) instead of judging candidates General studies & optional subject knowledge in Preliminary exam, it emphasise to check the aptitude of candidates.
  • As such there is no syllabus for CSAT, but the questions will be covered in the following areas like

Logical reasoning,

Decision Making,

Current affairs,

Arithmetic ability.
